I could have written this letter. It is how I feel in the darkest of moments. I no longer identify with a side or party. It feels like we are all kids in the worst divorce and rabid fans at the Super Bowl frothing over our team winning. There is no pause to think about logical decisions, it just seems as though most people just embrace what their side would do and act accordingly. In my opinion, all politicians are the scum of the earth, puppets of those in power. To think there is one good side and one evil one is delusional.

As far as humanity is concerned, it is easy to throw one’s hands up in the air and want to hide in a cave. I feel this way all the time. The people who are selflessly helping are not posting selfies. They are too busy working. I look for the small things that give me hope. Whenever I can, I do whatever little I can. I’ll smile at some hardened old man I pass on the street and I don’t give a F if he scowls. The world can go to hell, but Imma keep spreading glitter and love because my behavior and outlook is all I can control.

This is the first of these letters that actually has a valid point - all the others I've read are from people who screwed up then blame their problems on politics. This writer doesn't spell it out, but the real political problem in America is just that, politics. The Founders set up a system under which people would elect REPRESENTATIVES to represent them in Congress - Senators were not elected, they were chosen by legislatures to represent their state. There was no provision for political parties. But then Hamilton and Jefferson established parties and thus ruined the nation. It took a while but Democrats, the ones instituted by Jackson, eventually managed to really screw things up by coming up with the Seventeenth Amendment. Now it's all parties. What this country really needs is a revolution, armed if necessary, with the eventual abolishment of ALL political parties - period.
